Join errors & connection

This guide covers the most common DayZ connection errors and how to fix them. Follow the steps in order. Most issues are client-side and quick to fix.

General fix (fixes most errors)

Use this if you get "Connection with the host has been lost", random kicks on join or infinite loading.

  1. Close DayZ and Steam.
  2. In your Steam library, right-click DayZ → Properties.
  3. Disable Steam Cloud – keep game saves.
  4. Go to Documents and delete the DayZ folder.
  5. Restart Steam.
  6. Right-click DayZ → Properties → Local Files → Verify integrity of game files.
  7. Launch the game and join the server.
  1. Press Windows + R, type %localappdata% and press Enter.
  2. Delete the DayZ folder.
  3. Fully close and reopen Steam.
  4. Verify the DayZ game files again and join the server.

Connection failed (0x00010001)

This is usually a BattlEye issue.

  1. Open your DayZ install folder (SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DayZ) and then the BattlEye folder.
  2. Run Uninstall_BattlEye.bat, then Install_BattlEye.bat.
  3. Restart your PC and join again.

PBO error / connection failed

  • Verify the game files
  • Restart your PC
  • Restart your router/modem
  • Disable your firewall, or add exceptions for DayZ and BattlEye

Stuck at 0 in queue / mod issues

  1. Close DayZ and all launchers.
  2. In Steam, right-click DayZ → Properties → Workshop, select all mods and unsubscribe.
  3. Wait until all mods are removed, then restart Steam.
  4. Join the server again and let the launcher reinstall the required mods.

Data verification error

Do not press Play in the in-game menu; it loads the wrong mods. Close the game immediately and rejoin with the DZSA Launcher or the vanilla DayZ launcher.

"You need to change your name from Survivor"

Change your name in the launcher, not in the DayZ menu:

LauncherWhere
DZSA LauncherSettings → In-Game Name
Vanilla launcherParameters → Profile Name
DayZ Magic LauncherSettings (top right) → nickname

Then relaunch the game.

Client not responding / BattlEye error

A known BattlEye issue, caused by a broken BattlEye install or a high ping that times out. Reinstall BattlEye (see above) and restart the game. Sometimes it takes several restarts.

Unstable connection / random disconnects

If nothing above helps, test your connection with WinMTR (we are not affiliated with this tool, download it from SourceForge):

  1. Run WinMTR and enter the server IP (see Server addresses).
  2. Click Start and let it run for at least 5 minutes.
  3. Click Stop, then Export TEXT.
  4. Paste the result into a support ticket on Discord.

Ping limit

The maximum allowed ping is the vanilla limit of 300 ms. Connection quality matters for fair, stable gameplay: high ping hurts hit registration, vehicle physics and PvP fairness.

UsuallyPingRegions
Stableunder 150 msUK & Ireland, Western & Central Europe, Nordics, Eastern Europe & Balkans
Borderline150–300 msNorth America, Middle East, North Africa
Cannot playover 300 msSouth America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Oceania

Ping depends on your ISP and routing, so this is a guideline, not a guarantee. Staff may restrict access if latency consistently affects server performance.
